This dramatic new limited edition in bronze captures a gentle meeting of two of nature's most loved creatures: tortoise and butterfly. A great deal of the power of the bronze cast results from the use of the energy of form in the red cedar burl from which it was originally sculpted.

The wood grain and its natural flowing characteristics are skillfully united with the remarkable realism of the tortoise which appears to be emerging from the wood. He seems to be pausing, in the midst of his own struggle, to contemplate the presence of his small companion... or is he, too, enchanted by this magical moment when the beautiful butterfly is perched upon his shoulder?

This is the quiet, meditative quality of "A Brief Encounter."
